The Women by Kristin Hannah tells the poignant story of Frances "Frankie" McGrath, a young nurse who enlists to serve in the Vietnam War, exploring themes of courage, sacrifice, and the often-overlooked contributions of women in wartime.

Set against the backdrop of the Vietnam War, the novel follows Frankie McGrath, a 20-year-old woman from a wealthy family with a strong military tradition. The story begins in May 1966, when Frankie attends a farewell party for her brother, Finley, who is about to be deployed. After Finley is tragically killed in action, Frankie defies her parents' expectations and enlists as a nurse, seeking to honor her brother's legacy and find her own purpose.
