Event Details

Celebrate National Poetry Month by creating black-out poetry from old book pages, or taking advantage of our myriad of supplies to make your own zine. Maybe even combine them together!

What's a "zine"?

A zine - short for magazine - is a small, low budget, DIY booklet that you create entirely by yourself. It can be structured however you like and the content can be whatever you wish. Zines are often associated with underground art movements, punk subcultures, how-to guides, activism, fandom, and comics.

"Essentially, zines can be a little hard to define—but that’s what makes them great: they’re a glorious mash-up of art, letters, story and emotion; just like the brains, hands and hearts of those who produce them. Their small, simple format belies their unique ability to speak creatively [and loudly] for even the softest voices. (And ain’t that worth celebrating.)" Source.

What's "blackout poetry"?

Blackout poetry is when you take a page of text, and blackout everything on it except for a few select words that will create an entirely new meaning.
