American women didn't invent the quilt, but they made it a distinctive “democratic art.” Quilting has been a significant means of artistic expression for American women for more than two centuries. Discover the processes of designing, creating, and utilizing quilts, and how they changed over time. From simple bed covers to political statements to intricate works of art, quilts have held an essential place in the American experience. This presentation will explore that history of quilters and quiltmaking in this country.
